Hale: ending sequestration, budget stability most important for DoD

Congress is already hammering away at a fiscal year 2017 budget. The Armed Services Committees and the Senate Appropriations Committees looked at pieces of the Defense Department budget at hearings last week. The House Appropriations Committee has a hearing lined up for this week. The fiscal 2017 budget is the last one the Obama administration will submit to Congress; and the next administration will find some challenges. Robert Hale was Undersecretary of Defense (Comptroller) – the Chief Financial Officer at the Pentagon – from 2009 to 2014. He’s now a Fellow at Booz Allen Hamilton. He discussed the long-term challenges financial managers will face at the Defense Department beyond this administration, and the factors that will help those leaders build stability for defense spending moving forward.
