Hammack: Army needs BRAC to protect capability, readiness

For the fifth year in a row, Defense Department leaders are asking for another round of base realignment and closure as part of the department’s budget request. Representatives of all the branches appeared before a House Appropriations subcommittee, and their message was: BRAC will save money that the branches can use for increasing capability and readiness. Katherine Hammack is Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy, and Environment. Secretary Hammack testified for the Army at that hearing. I visited Secretary Hammack in her office at the Pentagon this week to talk about why she and her colleagues are so adamant about another round of BRAC.
