The Army aims to boost readiness by reemphasizing basic soldiering. The service will increase its focus on more traditional soldiering skills like marksmanship, survivability, and analog navigation. The Army’s emphasis on readiness also includes mental readiness. One way the top enlisted man in the Army wants to sharpen mental readiness is through reading. The Sergeant Major of the Army, Dan Dailey, has instituted a book club across the Army. His first selection is the novel “Ender’s Game.” He discussed all of these on National Defense Week.
