Congressional oversight of DoD IG office & whistleblower protection

The investigation of Navy Rear Adm. Brian Losey has DoD’s Office of Inspector General on the defensive. RADM Losey’s assignments included Commander of Special Operations Command Africa and commander of SEAL Team 6. Military Times reports whistleblowers accused RADM Losey of giving poor reviews and getting rid of staffers who filed anonymous complaints with the IG’s office. Losey’s supporters say he was just doing his job. One of his supporters is Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-Montana). He’s a retired Navy SEAL. He testified about the Losey case and the DoD IG’s office at a hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee on National Security this week. The second panel included testimony from Glenn Fine, the deputy Inspector General and acting Inspector General of the Department of Defense. National Defense Week featured highlights of each witness’s testimony.
